Your blogging "expert" is misinformed. I think a lot of bloggers don't add to their blogs at the weekend, but they're still devoured by readers who haven't the time to pour over them during the week.

I'm from the Philippines, been a subscriber of your newsletters since issue number 4, and have read about articles your write ups on the Dr, and Gary Owens. I remember reading one newsletter where you mentioned about the DR and why it took him time to send those tapes. Eversince that newsletter, I've been intriqued by the DR and finally thru this I get to hear him and enjoy for myself what a great radio kid the DR is and will always be. Dan, thank you for all these :) Padayon!!! (in my dialect it means "Go forth", or "Go on") Go on being a friend to all of us, an inspiration, and a reminder of what we are to be.
As you have already said, Dan, nobody listens to radio on weekends (/sarc). Why else do so many radio station websites not even mention who or what is on the air weekends?

What I said during the introduction to that session remains true -- even though it set me up for such a brilliant, lightning fast adlib by Gary Owens.
"The Radio Entertainer" would be one of my "desert island" sessions. I found it very moving then and equally affecting now.

Most stations feature some form of specialty programming on the weekend -- even if it's only a weak theme (It's a "Female Groups Who Had Only One Hit But At Least One of Whose Members Went On To Marry A Member of Parliament" weekend!)
Whatever "special" thing is happening that weekend should be enthusiastically promoted on the station's home page.

I first remember Dr. Donald D Rose hosting the cartoons on WKBS-TV in Philadelphia when I was a kid. Actually, I think I watched just so I could catch his bits between shows.

Many "variety" stations feature an "All 80s Weekend" or something similar. What's your take on this? As a listener, it annoys me. Am I alone?

If you're in the target demo of the radio station and it annoys you, then they're doing a lousy job of creating special themes. (Or, as I teach in my seminars, "contexts" — which can be very powerful.)
You're not annoyed by themes. You're annoyed by irrelevant themes. If they had an "All of Nick's Favorite Songs, With Recollections of Where He Was When He First Heard Them" weekend, probably you'd listen.
