JOHN RECORDS LANDECKER: His First Air Shift
Here's a piece of the legendary John Records Landecker's very first air shift, as a teenager hosting the Saturday Midday Ride on WOIA/WOIB in Ann Arbor, Michigan, 1966.
You'll also hear the "live" commentary provided by John as the air check was played for attendees at one of my radio seminars. Listen for the surprise appearance of "Radio's Best Friend."
Yep, John "faked" a call, having a buddy call in to make a request.
Labels: aircheck, John Landecker, John Records Landecker

Wow - this old Chicago boy can still remember listening to John doing his iconic "Boogie Check" on 89-W-L-S-Chicago...what is it, 30 ormore years ago? Thanks for the blast.

P.S. That's one heckuva set of pipes for a teenager. Reminds me of the deep voice that used to do the tagline for Pall Mall cigarettes (remember? "...and they are mild." I'd heard it said that THAT guy was a teenager, too.) -rs
@ Rod: Do the math, and you discover it's actually more than 40 years ago.
Scary, huh?
